Podcast transcription service for show notes, episode pages and SEO

A podcast episode is a long piece of content that search engines cannot listen to. A transcript makes the episode searchable, accessible to people who prefer reading, and much easier to reuse for show notes, newsletters and social clips. LessRec provides human-reviewed transcription: an editor listens to the episode and checks the full transcript, including guest names, brand names and who said what.

What you can get from one episode

For live shows, panels or recorded events turned into episodes, see conference transcription. If you already have an automatic transcript and need it checked against the audio, see editorial transcript review.

Why automatic transcripts fall short for podcasts

Podcasts are conversational. Hosts interrupt each other, laugh, trail off and use show-specific jargon and inside jokes. Guest names, company names and book titles are often unusual spellings. Automatic tools tend to merge speakers, drop words in crosstalk and replace names with common words. That is acceptable for private search, but risky when you publish quotes under a guest’s name or paste the text onto your website.

How to prepare an episode

  1. Send the final mixed episode, or separate tracks per speaker if you have them; separate tracks make speaker labels easier.
  2. List host and guest names with correct spellings, plus any brands, books or terms mentioned.
  3. Choose a style: clean verbatim (filler words removed) reads best on a web page; full verbatim keeps every “um” for editing work.
  4. Say whether ads, intros and outros should be included.
  5. Tell us the format you need: DOCX, TXT or an SRT/VTT caption file.

Using the transcript for SEO without hurting readers

Publishing a raw transcript is better than nothing, but an episode page works best when it has a short written summary at the top, clear headings for the main topics, and the transcript below. Pull two or three accurate quotes for social posts and the newsletter. Link to related episodes in the text. Because the transcript has been checked, you can quote from it with more confidence; still confirm any claim a guest makes before repeating it as fact.

Ordering a series

If you publish weekly, it helps to keep one running glossary of recurring names, segments and sponsors and send it with every episode. Agree a single style for speaker labels and timestamps at the start, so episode pages stay consistent across the whole archive.

Accessibility

Transcripts and captions help listeners who are deaf or hard of hearing, people listening in a second language and anyone who prefers to skim. If your show also publishes on video platforms, captions timed to the video are usually the most useful format.
